Dan moves to Seattle and struggles to fit into a new school where everything feels strange and futuristic, with classes taught partially by robots. Dan encounters a malfunctioning classroom robot and, out of frustration, treats it poorly which leads to a bigger disruption in class. Dan’s teacher explains the importance of treating everyone and everything with respect, including robots, which are integral to their society. Dan decides to learn more about robots to understand them better. This leads to a school project where Dan must partner with the robot he previously mistreated. As Dan works with the robot, he begins to understand its mechanisms and starts seeing it as a friend, noticing how it responds positively to respectful treatment. During a major school presentation, the robot malfunctions. Dan must decide whether to abandon the robot or help it. Dan chooses to help the robot, showing his classmates the value of patience and respect for technology, turning what could have been a failure into a lesson for all. Inspired by Dan’s actions, other students start treating the robotic staff with more kindness, leading to a happier, more efficient school environment. The robot thanks Dan, revealing it can feel and respond to human emotions to an extent, deepening Dan’s understanding and respect for artificial beings. Dan reflects on his journey, realizing how his respect for the robot changed not just his own attitude but influenced his peers as well. The school principal recognizes Dan and the robot for their exemplary teamwork and the positive changes they spurred in the school community. Dan prepares for a new project, excited to apply the lessons of respect and empathy he’s learned, confident in facing the future with his robotic friends.
