Here, Jonas faces the challenge of retrieving the Mirror of Insight, which shows one’s true intentions. Jonas climbs the treacherous Mountain of Judgement to find the Sword of Equity, which cuts through deceit. Along the way, Jonas learns valuable lessons about justice and mercy. Jonas’s final challenge is to cross the River of Reflections, where he must confront his own biases and retrieve the final object, the Shield of Virtue, which protects the holder from unfair treatment. With all three objects, Jonas returns to Fairwood and confronts the village leaders, using the magical scale to reveal their greed and dishonesty. The villagers see the truth of their leaders’ actions. A town meeting is held where Jonas uses the magical items to argue for a return to the village’s old, fair ways. At the climax, the corrupt leaders try to destroy the scale and magical items. Jonas sacrifices the objects to permanently imbue the village with a spirit of fairness, though it means losing the magical aids. In the aftermath, the village rebuilds its foundations on true fairness. Jonas is chosen as a new leader, but they decide to establish a council to prevent future corruption. Jonas decides their role as a leader isn’t meant to be permanent. They set out to spread fairness to other lands, leaving Fairwood in the capable hands of the council. Years later, an older Jonas returns to a thriving Fairwood, welcomed back as a hero. The story concludes with Jonas sharing tales of fairness with the village children, ensuring the legacy lives on.
